Metaprobe Gallery

The ill-fated Metaprobe was the last of Earth's Deep Space Probes before the Moon was hurled out of Earth orbit. Originally intended to make contact with the rogue planetoid Meta, the Metaprobe did not survive the gravitational turbulence caused by the Moon's departure.

Features of note include the standard Eagle command module and the large sensor arrays mounted to either side of the ship's main hull. Metaprobe astronauts trained using Eagles on the dark side of the moon, but were stricken with an unknown illness in the process.

In building the model of the Metaprobe, I was amazed at how sparsely detailed the original was. The original was seen only momentarily in the episode Breakaway, and even then, only from a distance. The ship did appear to be quickly cobbled together from a spare Eagle cockpit and bits of tubing. This presented a challenge for me in deciding how much detail to add and, where necessary, invent. The version shown below is fairly true to the original, with the exception of insignia, the cockpit mounting bracket, and a few nurnies added to the sensor arrays.
