Animation and Multimedia

Computer Animation has become widely incorporated into film, video, broadcast, and even corporate video and websites. Though sometimes called CGI (short for: Computer Generated Imagery), the use of Computer Animation is a cost-effective method for creating images and video that you need to get your message across.

Motion Digital Media Group has been working with computer animation since 1993 and we are experts at computer animation and all the tools necessary to create outstanding, highly effective visuals.

3D Animation and Modeling
What most people think of when you mention Computer Animation is 3D Animation. By building three-dimensional computer models of objects and people, we are able to create film and video footage that is indistinguishable from live footage. This means that 3D animation can be used to create images that are too expensive or too dangerous to shoot practically, or are simply not attainable because the subject matter does not exist in the real world. But this is only the beginning of what can be done—3D animation can be made to look like traditional hand-drawn artwork in cartoons, or oil paintings, or classic 1920s-era film from the dawn of cinema. The possibilities are limitless.

Aside from Film and Video, some applications for 3D animation include:

  • Safety Videos: Animation can demonstrate the best way to perform an activity, or warn of dangerous actions making it possible to teach and instruct the audience in basic safety without the need for expensive and possibly dangerous live shoots.
  • Process Animations: If you want to show a process in action, animation can break down the process into a step at a time, and show cutaway views of the equipment used in the process. A Process animation is ideal for quickly explaining to your audience how something works.
  • Cartoons: Want to market your product in an eye-catching way towards the youth audience? Cartoons are one very effective way. While traditional hand-drawn cartoons are expensive, our 3D animated cartoons are nearly indistinguishable from the hand-drawn types and can be created at a fraction of the cost.
  • Physical Models: Using Rapid Prototyping technology, it is possible to convert a 3D computer model into a physical model that can be touched, manipulated, and checked for fit.

Motion Graphics
Motion Graphics use text and images as elements in animation. The fancy titles and bumpers used by television broadcasters are examples of motion graphics in action, but motion graphics are not only for television. Corporate video and websites are ideal for motion graphics where they can elevate content to professional production levels without breaking the budget.

Visual Effects
Hollywood has made an entire industry out of visual effects and there are few films which do not incorporate visual effects in one form or another. We are able to offer Hollywood-level visual effects to Alberta filmmakers, videographers, and small businesses including professional compositing and match moving. Compositing is the technique of incorporating elements, such as still images, 3D models, or effects into live footage. Match moving allows the seamless integration of composited elements into moving camera footage, such as a shaky hand-held camera.

Character Animation
With the establishment of our own motion capture studio, we are able to offer the ultimate tools in realistic and professional character animation to our clientele. This Hollywood-level technology allows us to record the movements of two live actors and then apply those motions onto computer-generated models of people or cartoon characters. This is ideal for many kinds of animations including safety videos, educational videos, and marketing videos.
